He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Alvah Brookins and Mildred Brookins; his wife Inez Broemer; his children, Linda Strelow, Michael, Dean (Bonnie) and Jeffrey (Joan); his grandchildren, Vincent Strelow, Matthew Strelow (Laura), Amanda Sandrone, Ashley Sweeney (Kevin), Adam Brookins, Cora Loven (Seth) and Cory Brookins (Lydia); and his son Paul. He was also cherished by 10 great-grandchildren.
