It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Richard Wertanen of Florence, Wisconsin, born in Ishpeming, Michigan, who passed away on July 17, 2022, at the age of 85, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Leslie Wertanen and Ellen Wertanen (Kangas); his stepfather Arvid Wiik; his half-siblings, David Wiik (late Christine) and Donna Crandall (late Allen); and his stepbrother Kenneth Wiik.
He is survived by: his wife Karen Wertanen; his children, Scott Wertanen (Kathy), Pam Smith (Howard) and Brenda Gelhar (Scot); his grandchildren, Jennifer Renquin (Aaron), Kim Smith (Jeremy Adolphson), Sarah Smith, Alex Gelhar (Taylor Soule), Kelsey Gelhar and Jason Holland; and his great grandchildren, Liam and Max Renquin. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, and the many special friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family will be establishing a memorial scholarship for the students of Florence High School.
