He was predeceased by: his parents, Ruth Palmer (Malpass) and Linus Palmer; and his brother John. He is survived by: his wife Diana Groth; his children, Michael, Catherine Stott (Terry) and Steve (Catherine); and his granddaughters, Ruth and Rachael Martin.

Richard has been battling Alzheimer's Disease since 2014.
