He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Baumhardt and Mabel Baumhardt; his brothers, Joe (Jean) and Floyd (Lois); and his brother-in-law Richard Caves.

He is survived by: his former wife Anna Mae Schommer; his wife Anna "Annie"; his children, Steve (Carol), Dave (Karen), Rodney (Mary), Patti Mueller (Nick) and Barb Immel (Dennis); his grandchildren, Shawn Baumhardt (Lindsey), Adam Baumhardt, Mathias Baumhardt (Marie), Mark Baumhardt (Alysa), Jamie Gueller (Ryan), Reid Baumhardt, Ross Baumhardt (Stephanie), Nathan Mueller (Megan), Dusty Mueller (Robin), Kaitlin Timblin (Jake), Rebecca Haese (Josh), Ashley Immel and Amber Buss (Jackson); and his sister Mary Ellen Caves. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
