He was predeceased by: his wife Joan Mary Vander Heiden (Kortz); his sister Carol Pilgrim (John) of Oconomowoc, WI.; his parents, Clayton Heiden and Rosella Vander Heiden; his parents-in-law, Kirby and Catherine Kortz; his brother Merlin Vander Heiden (Delores) of Depere, WI; and his brothers-in-law, William Kortz and John Pilgrim.
He is survived by: his son David (Sheila); his grandchildren, Justin, Ryan, Brandon and Sean of Chilton, WI; his son Daniel (Dawn); his grandchildren, Danielle, Derek, Devin and Dayna of Appleton, WI; his son Duane (Laurie); his grandchildren, Jennifer, Michael, Kevin and Brian of Kaukauna, WI; his son Dean (Linda); his grandchildren, Summer, Christian and Gabriel of Appleton, WI; his great grandchildren, Wynter, Raynee, Rydge and Irys Johnson; his siblings, Beatrice Baeten (Mel) of Appleton, WI, Jerome Vander Heiden (Kitty) of Green Bay, WI, Carol Verstegen (Greg) of Appleton, WI, Lois Mignon (Gary) of Crandon, WI, Mary Lom (Joe) of Appleton, WI, Helen Hendricks (Chris) of Appleton, WI, Roy Kortz (Sue) of Waupaca, WI, Jim Kortz (Linda) of Kaukauna, WI, Lee Kortz (Carol) of Cincinnati, OH and Mark Kortz (Jan) of Kaukauna, WI; and his godchildren, Ann Laatsch and Dale Baeten.
One week after Joan's passing, covid closings/restrictions began and Brewster Village staff took care of Gene like a member of their family and for this we are forever thankful.
