He was predeceased by: his parents, Alvin Petersen and Christine Petersen (Olsen); his wife Dorothy Ronk; his siblings, Mae Vandenbush (Henry), Linda Engelbrecht (Eldor) and Peter; and his siblings-in-law, Margaret Schaetz (Lawrence) and Norbert Ronk (Jean).

He is survived by: his children, Gerald Petersen (Carol), Mary Haasl (Greg), Joan Kane (Greg) and Michael Petersen; his grandchildren, Megan Stodola (Andrew), Zak Petersen (Danielle), Katie Kane (Alex Linden), Sam Petersen (Becky) and Erica Haasl; his great grandchildren, Kaden, Peyton Stodola, Graysen and Emersyn Petersen; and his siblings, Lorna Skubal (Glen) and Claude Petersen (Judy). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
