He was predeceased by: his son Robert Joseph; and his sisters, Jean and Barbara. He is survived by: his wife Ann; his children, Linda Rose of Madison, Donna Smith (Monroe) of Pensacola, Jeff Nelson of Chicago, Ken Nelson (Lisa Soderberg) of Milwaukee and Judy Nelson of Madison; his grandchildren, Carrie, Michael, Wolfgang and Veronica; and his great grandchildren, Annabelle and Charlotte.
