He is survived by: his son Herman (Elsbeth Hodel); his spouse Jean Gordee; his children, Thomas Hodel (Cynthia) of Deerfield, WI, Tamara Weiss (Joseph) of Sun Prairie, WI, Timothy Hodel (Connie) of Lake Mills, WI, Tiffany Fritz (Brian) of Middleton, WI and Tricia Hodel of Madison, WI; his grandchildren, Ryan Hodel (Kristyn), Heidi Segerson (Justin), Michael Weiss (Heather Skinner), Shannon Hodel (Chris Stewart), Jean Weiss (Steven Ellingson), Sharilyn Zimmerman (Jake), Matthew Weiss, Christine Weiss, Timothy Hodel (Katelyn), Andrew Fritz, Benjamin Hodel, Ashley Fritz and Aaron Fritz; his great grandchildren, Brannock Stewart, Braedan Hodel, Kilee Stewart, Keegan Stewart, Mallory Segerson, Westin Hodel, Monroe Stewart and Kellan Hodel; his siblings, Roger Hodel (Jean), Carol Prinsen and Debbie Schneider (Kendall); and his sister-in-law Mary Lou Hodel.
He worked for many years as a chemist for the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation: WARF.
