He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Ruys and Irene Ruys (Emmers); his brother Anthony Ruys; his parents-in-law, Howard and Charlotte Messmer; and his brother-in-law Jim Murray.
He is survived by: his wife Janet; his son Eric; his daughter-in-law Janel; his daughter Molly Ruys; his grandchildren, Emma Ruys and Austin Roberts; his siblings, Irene Nelson, Mary Ellenbecker (Lyle), Joanie Hogan (Mike), Anne Locy (Mike), Katy Ruys, Laura Ruys, John Ruys (Jennie), Therese Bosch (Dick) and Sarah Olson; and his mothers-in-law, Sister Mary Ellen Messmer, Katherine Murray and Susan Messmer. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
