He was predeceased by: his former wife Carol Schmidt; his parents, Robert Schmidt and Jane Schmidt (Sterling); and his brother Jim Schmidt. He is survived by: his wife Maureen Liebergen Schmidt; his children, Paul Schmidt (Mary Catherine Berner), Joseph Schmidt (Susie) and Margaret McDermott (Brendan); his stepdaughters, Sarah McCabe (Sean) and Emily Pierre (Matthew); his grandchildren, Ella, Evan, Gavin, Caroline, Elizabeth, Emma, Abigail, Katherine Schmidt, Josephine, Julia, Sean McCabe, Elise and Lena Pierre; his brothers, Richard Schmidt (Karin), John Schmidt (Amy) and Fritz Schmidt (Beth); and his sister-in-law Katy Schmidt. He is also survived by many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
