He was predeceased by: his wife Nancy; his children, Margaret, George and Andrew; and his siblings, Doris Melchior and Ted Schlafke Jr..

He is survived by: his children, Bernie Jr. and Susan; his grandchildren, Emma Schinke (Jake) and Sam Collins; his great grandchildren, Charlie and Scarlett Schinke; his brother Walter Schlafke (MaryLou); and his sister-in-law Jeanne Schlafke. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
