He was predeceased by: his father Roman Schmitt; and his brother Jim. He is survived by: his mother Mary Lou Schmitt (Kalscheur); his siblings, Roman "Romie" (Karen), Joyce Richardson (Ron) and Jane Mulcahy (Marty); and his sister-in-law Kim Schmitt. He is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many friends.

Due to COVID 19 mandates, a private Mass of Christian Burial was held at Blessed Trinity Catholic Parish at St. Michael's Church Dane with Rev. Fr. Joseph Baker officiating.
