He was predeceased by: his parents, Clement Rake and Idella Rake (Powers); his daughter Lori; and his siblings, Mary Lou Brown, Harold and Melvin.
He is survived by: his wife Virginia Holbach of Columbus; his children, Cathy Schultz of Columbus, Diane Munz of Stoughton, Scott Rake (Linda) of Janesville, Kim Guerrieri of Columbus, Jim Rake (Kara) of Columbus and Lisa Smith (Mike) of Fall River; his grandchildren, Matthew Munz, Stephanie Orlofske (Allan), Collin Munz, Ashley Guerrieri, Mariah Lindell (Remington), Megan Rake, Corey Rake (Shannon), Nicole McConnel (Phillip), Seth Williams, Chris Rake (Robyn), Dustin Shepard (Kali), Jacob Smith, Sidney Smith and Will Smith; his great grandchildren, Anthony, Kaden, Tres, Bella, Adam, Oliver, Idella, Levi, Maddie and Edison; and his sisters, Lorraine Miller of Beaver Dam and Lola Seed of Oregon, WI. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jerome Church or school, or Dodge County Humane Society in Gene's memory.
