He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Bates and Margaret Bates (Phelps); his sister Mary Taplin (Tom); and his sisters-in-law, Nancy Bates and Roberta Bates.
He is survived by: his wife June Bates; his children, Jodi Bates and Jami Karras (Bill); his grandsons, Michael, Brandon (Jasmine) and Jordan Karras (Landon); his great grandchild Kieran Karras; and his brothers, Harold Bates Jr. (Lavina) and Ronald Bates. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Beloit Regional Hospice.
