He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. John Akan and Evelyn Akan (Ryan); his wife Cris; and his brothers, Patrick, Jack and Marty Akan.

He is survived by: his nephews, Mike, John, Bill, Patrick (Katie) and Brian; his sisters-in-law, Carol Akan, Bonnie Akan and Barb Akan; and his pet Christi.
