He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Prell and Lettie Prell. He is survived by: his wife Rose; his sons, Brandon (Kia), Jason and Derek (Kathryn); and his sister Joann. He is also survived by several sisters and brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

“Lee Ann and Tom send their love and sympathy to Rose and family. We are so sorry to hear of Gene's death. Gene was a special friend to me as we became friends when we were still in grade school, went to high school together, lived briefly together in college and remained friends through all these years. He was my longest living friend and will be greatly missed. He showed how to live a positive life even when the odds seemed stacked against him. He shall always be with me in spirit. Peace!”
