Lola Marie (Melichar) Prom Obituary

Peacefully embraced into the loving arms of her Lord and welcomed into her eternal home by her awaiting family on May 24, 2024 at the age of 92 years old. Beloved wife for 49 years to the late Donald Prom. Loving & caring mother of Joanne (James) Wesp, Larry (Sarah), Susan (Dale) Heiden, the late Cindy (Greg) Nickels, the late David, Patti Skirvin, Robert (Leigh), Catherine (Rick) Majkowski and Michael (Gwen). Adored Grandmother to 27 grandchildren and 27 (plus) great grandchildren. Marie devoted her life to her family, as they were the most important piece of who she was.

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 grandchildren, her siblings, other relatives and friends.

Marie was born in Newburg, Wi on July 28, 1931, the daughter of Charles and Lola Melichar (nee Frye), she and her siblings were raised on a farm in Port Washington. As a young girl, age 4, she walked a mile to a one room school house and then went on to graduate from Port High School. While attending a Port vs Cedarburg football game, Marie met the love of her life, Donie. On June 23, 1951 Don and Marie married, and lived in Cedarburg where Don worked alongside his father in the family business, Prom Well Drilling Company. Their family and business began to expand. In 1962, Don & Marie, moved to Menomonee Falls where they further developed Prom Well Drilling and Sons. They lovingly raised their nine children here and the Prom's house door was always open. Juggling a business and motherhood, "Mom Prom" was the energizer bunny and wore many hats. She was the surrogate mom to many and was always ready with a snack, a hug, a smile or whatever was needed. She referred to her home as "Grand Central Station" and loved it all. It was a fun loving place to be.

Marie and Don were avid treasure hunters and were the founding members of the Wisconsin Association of Treasure Hunters Club. This passion also fueled a Treasure Hunting Supply Store, which opened the door to many interesting adventures and friends.

Later in life, Marie worked at Falls Medical Group and the Washington County Visitors Bureau. She also volunteered at The Apple Works bringing joy to the school kids, as she shared her enthusiasm for nature, telling them all about the importance of the birds, the bees and the apple trees.

Marie was the best nurse and caregiver to Don, as he recovered from his Heart Transplant in 1982.

Marie's happy place was "the Land", the beautiful nature preserve she and Don created for all to enjoy, hosting the annual family reunion for over 50 years. Here, she watched her family & friends enjoy the lazy days of summer, especially her grandkids. She loved to listen to the birds and look at the clouds.

Marie spent her last years in West Bend, close to family. She enjoyed her cozy senior apartment, where she was embraced by many news friends, playing Bingo, Wii Bowling and enjoying life's reflections.

Her loving kindness and happy energy will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know her.

Our family is forever grateful for the compassionate love and support of her caregivers, Vicki and Patricia. Mom was blessed to have you in her life.

As Marie always said, "Count your Blessings". . . I count you as one of mine.
