He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Arthur Giere and Agnes Giere (Peterson); his wife Hazel Teien; his children, Nils (Linda), John and Martha Glende (Mark); and his brother Rolf Giere. He was also cherished by 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorials are appreciated to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
