He was predeceased by: his father Elmer Jr.; his grandchild Baby Hopper; his parent-in-law Robert Hamernik; and also Patricia Hamernik. He is survived by: his wife Shelley; his children, Michelle Lemke (Richard), Matthew Zimdahl (Ashley), Melissa Hopper (John), Mallory Elliott (Ryan), Merrill Zimdahl (Stephanie) and Merrick Zimdahl; his grandchildren, Lauren, Leigha, Landon, Logan, Lincoln, Marie, Bryson, Ada, Hailey, Noah, Dylan, Alyssa, Emmalyn and Delaney; his mother Christine; and his siblings, Timothy Zimdahl (Rhonda), James Zimdahl (Kathy), Susan Boschert (Daniel) and Thomas Zimdahl (Rhonda). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to St. Jude Hospital.
