He was predeceased by: his father John Paul Scholtes Sr.; and his grandparents, John Russell Scholtes, Doris Scholtes, Donald Lanphear and Ellen Lanphear.

He is survived by: his son John Allen Scholtes; his mother Jeannette Vereide; and his brother Donald Scholtes. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
