Joanne W. Bergmann Obituary
Joanne Whittington Bergmann, a 70-year resident of Brookfield, WI, passed away on January 15, 2025, following a short illness at the age of 94. Born in Austin, Texas, to George Raymond Whittington and Julia Claire Davis, Joanne grew up in Amarillo, Texas.
She attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she met her future husband, Henry Robert Bergmann. They married on June 14, 1950, in Madison, Wisconsin, and settled in Brookfield, where they raised five daughters.
Joanne was actively involved in her community, serving as a Girl Scout leader, a founding member and member of the vestry at St. Edmund's Church, and a member of various quilt and weaving guilds. She enjoyed traveling, with several trips to Thailand being a highlight. Joanne pursued lifelong learning, studying business law and history at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She retired from Falk Corp as a clerk in the bookkeeping department. Known for her extensive knowledge on a wide variety of topics, Joanne was a valued member of her community.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, granddaughter Christina Rice, sister Janice Green Keeler, and son-in-law David Hagenson.
She is survived by her daughters Deborah Dorsey, Dr. Cynthia Bergmann, Barbara (Donald) Rice, Andrea (Robert) Anderson, and Margaret Bergmann; grandchildren Christian Noel (Dr. Jodie Skzrat), Matthew Dorsey (Jennifer Gorski), Victoria Anderson (Dr. Jason Floyd), Erik (Marnie) Noel, Kaitlin Dorsey, Carolyn (Garret) Briggs, Rebecca (Ray) Avalos, Douglas (Michelle) Anderson, and Thomas Rice; great-grandchildren Ava and Ellie Noel, Frankie Avalos, Danielle and Henry Anderson, Joseph, Jacob, Alex, and Abigail Noel, and Austin and Wesley Briggs; and sisters Sue Lawrence, Patricia (James) Payne, Diane Mason, and Gail (George) Crowder.
A funeral service will be held at the chapel in Forest Home Cemetery at 11:00 am on Saturday February 1 with interment following. The family will greet mourners starting at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Elmbrook Senior Taxi (http://www.elmbrookseniortaxi.org) who provided Joanne with transportation with care, kindness and dignity for several years.
