He was predeceased by: his parents, Valentine Slater and Florence Slater (Manske). He is survived by: his wife Bonnie Johnson; his children, Deann Slater, Denise Fye (Ken) and Les Slater Jr. (Hope); his grandchildren, Samuel, Erin, Carly, Natalya, Hannah and Austin; and his sisters, Valerie Palmer and Virginia Powell. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
