He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Mattson and Ruth Mattson (Larson); his brother Glenn Mattson; and his parents-in-law, Ray Merkel and Shirley Mattson.

He is survived by: his former wife Linda Grenwalt; his siblings, Betty Lou Merkel of Rockford, IL, Barbara Jeanne Metcalf (Robert) of Bloomer, James Mattson of Chetek and Dennis (Maryann); and his sister-in-law Patricia Mattson of Bloomer. He is also survived by cousins, niece's nephews and friends.
