He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Schmidt and Josephine Schmidt (Beine); his brother-in-law Tom O'Brien; and his nephew Tom O'Brien Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Pamela Vinz; his children, Allan Schmidt of Onalaska, Ryan Schmidt of Onalaska, Amber Schmidt (Jeremiah Donabauer) of Eau Claire and Rachael Romero (Oscar) of Merrillan; his foster daughter Sandi Rupnow (Chad) of Humbird; his grandchildren, Boe Risch, Thomas Rupnow, Kaylee Donabauer, Isabella Rupnow, Fernando Romero, Chaz Rupnow, Briella Rupnow and Liliana Romero; and his siblings, Judy O'Brien of Hartford, Larry Schmidt (Diane) of Mauston, Sandy Thorpe (Jeff) of Washington State, David Schmidt (Susie) of East Troy and Jeff Schmidt (Eileen) of Iron Ridge. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
