He was predeceased by: his father Edwin Sassman; his wife Helen Derks; his son Timothy; his grandchildren, Taylor Skenandore and Matthew Rynish; his great grandchildren, Solanus and Isaac; his sister Vera; his brother-in-law Ben Krueger; his sister Esther Henry; and his siblings-in-law, Marlene Derks and Earl Zuleger.

He is survived by: his son Thomas (Chris) of Madison; his grandchildren, Olivia Wimble (Nate) and Peter (Eriko); his daughter-in-law Linda Sassman (Timothy) of Appleton; his grandchildren-in-law, Andrew, Carrie Heiting (Eric) and Heather Franson (Jim); his son Stephen (Barbara) of Black Creek; his grandchildren, Jennifer, Scott (Lori) and Paul (Jenny); his daughter Christine Rynish (Lee) of Seymour; his grandchildren, Nicholas (Shelley), Jonathan (Katie), Tiffany Hacker (Jon) and Joshua (Kari); his daughter Elaine Skenandore (Keith) of Kaukauna; his grandchildren, Kyle (Jessica), Bret and Jordan; his great grandchildren, Baby Rynish and Baby Skenandore; his siblings, Marian Zuleger and Laverne Sassman (Joyce); and his brothers-in-law, James, Richard (Shirley) and Robert Derks. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
