He was predeceased by: his parents, Victor Carlson and Mabel Carlson (Matzke); his son John Phillip; his brother Alfred; his uncles, Hilbert, Alvin and Norman 'Doc Matzke; and his aunt Gertrude Matzke.
He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Keen of Birnamwood; his sons, Jeremy Carlson (Kristine) of Birnamwood, Jason Carlson (Heather) of Birnamwood and Jordan Carlson (Kassandra) of Birnamwood; and his grandchildren, Cordell, Austin, Jaxson, Carissa, Aidan, Katelyn, Ryker, Kaylee and Case. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
