He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Erwin Coulson and Jean Jordan Coulson; his son Donald Coulson Jr.; his grandchildren, Austin, Kyle Coulson and Shila Scharrschmidt; his great grandchild Grace Schiltz; his sister Barbara Resop; his sister-in-law Jean Coulson; his close friend Vicki Simons; and his brothers, Conrad Coulson and Steven Coulson. He was also cherished by nieces and nephews.

He was often seen at local Berlin events helping the Kiwanis, Lions Club and the Berlin Veterans Foundation.
