Eben R. Hanson Jr Obituary
Eben R. Hanson Jr, 93, of Beloit, WI, died Friday, December 15, 2017 at Beloit Memorial Hospital. He was born October 11, 1924 in Racine, WI, the son of Eben and Loretta (Grovogel) Hanson Sr. Eben was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the 316th Air Squadron. While in British Guina during his service, he graduated from the Army Air Force Tech Supply at Borinquen Field in 1946 and received the American Theater Service Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal.
He married June Walecka August 20, 1949 in St. Mary of the Lake Church, Baileys Harbor, WI. Eben worked as a certified welder at Sturgeon Bay Ship Building and Dry Rock Company before going into the army. After his service, he worked at Christy Corporation in Sturgeon Bay, WI as a welder, and then joined his father as a stone man and brick layer.
He was a member of the Brick Layers Union #7 and he enjoyed golfing, and traveling the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Eben was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, June; two children, Mary (Stanley) Gehri, and Lisa (Denny) Dooley; daughter-in-law, Vickie Hanson all of Beloit, WI, five grandchildren, Lynn Gehri, Lori (Gene) Lee, Michael Gehri, Ryan (Jen) Hanson, and Seth (Brenda) Hanson; six great grandchildren, Austin Gehri, Natalie Lee, Iain, Aliana, Henry, and Evelyn Hanson; brothers and sisters, Bill (Virginia) Hanson, Helen Abrahamson, all from Sturgeon Bay, WI, Bob (Florence) Hanson, Florence (Don) Melichar, all of Plymouth, WI; Agnes Hanson of Elkhorn, WI, brother and sister–in–law, Leon J. (Anne) Blahnik of Sturgeon Bay, WI; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; his son, Eben "Butch" R Hanson III, siblings, Larry Hanson, Margaret "Peggy" and Carlton Keuhn, Carol and Joe Nelson, Jean and Reuben Widder, and Jim Roselyn Hanson; and brothers-in-law, Jim Abrahamson, and Harold E. Blahnik. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2017 in the Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 2222 Shopiere Road, Beloit, WI, with Fr.
Michael Resop officiating. Entombment will be in Mt. Thabor Cemetery. Visitation of remembrance will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Wednesday in the church. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements. .
