He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Gafke and Clara Gafke; his wife Alice Gafke; his daughters, Joan McCarville and Claire Gafke; his brother Leonard Gafke; and his sisters-in-law, Joyce Gafke and Linda Goad.

He is survived by: his children, David Gafke (Lisa) of Verona and Susan Steele (Walter) of Mount Horeb; his grandchildren, Eric McCarville (Jackie), Tatum Wienen (Nick), Jake Steele and Nicole Steele; his great grandchildren, Alana, Hunter, Emi, Takori, Ellie and Zeke; his great great grandchild Adeline; and his siblings-in-law, Elizabeth Kalsow (Wayne), Laura Jones (Joe) and Larry Goad.
