He was predeceased by: his parents, Leona and Gilbert H. Breitwisch; his parents-in-law, Joseph Verburgt and Ethel; his sisters, Betty and Nancy Breitwisch; and his brother-in-law Elmer Wenzel.

He is survived by: his children, John Breitwisch (Ruthann), Matthew BrightSky (Alice) and Dinah Breitwisch; his grandsons, Peter Breitwisch and Jonah BrightSky; his sister Janine; his siblings-in-law, Bill Relyea, Joseph and Lori Verburgt; and also Lynn. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
