He was predeceased by: his parents, James Bates and Edna Bates (Place). He is survived by: his wife Beverly Jean Hemner; his children, Terri Hart (Kevin) and David Bates; his grandchildren, Joshua (Kelin), Briana and Tiana; and his siblings, Jerry (Elaine), Don (Jeanne) and Virginia Naden (Harry). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
