He was predeceased by: his parents, Irvin "Ike" Kowalke and Geneva Kowalke (Haskins); his brothers, Kenneth and Bradley; and his pet Lucas.

He is survived by: his children, Debbie Sale (Kowalke), John Kowalke, Brenda Howard (Fleischmann), Maria Griffin (Fleischmann-Kowalke) and Rona Atwell (Fleischmann-Kowalke). He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.
