He was predeceased by: his parents, Frederick C. Kruse Sr. and Annabelle Vercruysse Kruse; his wife Kathryn Karll; and his siblings, Robert and Phyllis Dibble.

He is survived by: his children, Fritz, Karll (Terry), David and Kim Sprecher (Brett); his grandchildren, Kristopher and Katelyn Kruse; his nephew John Dibble; his niece Kristin Webster; his great-nieces, Anna Kate Mitchell and Grace Webster; and his great-nephew Tommy Webster.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fred's memory to PBS Wisconsin, and the Sauk County Humane Society.

“Living out of state full time, but residing annually in Baraboo for a few months in the summer, I had the opportunity to visit with Fred in late August while he was convalescing. We had a delightful visit. I knew Fred to be a gentleman's gentleman. He was a prince of a man and will be sorely missed. Please accept my sincerest condolences. Tom Slezak Hyattsville, Md”

“10 years ago Fred was the first person to welcome me to the community and St. John's. I was attending my first midweek service at St. John's and Fred new I was not a regular and he walked right up to me and introduced himself. We have been friends eversince. Fred had a heart as big as the city and a personality as gentle as a long time best friend. Sandy and I send our condolences to the family. Some people make the world more special and we are happy he was a part of ours. God bless you all.”
