He was predeceased by: his wife Joan Gaughan; his son Daniel; his parents, Robert and Alice; his siblings, Robert, James Smith and Helen Valente; his nephews, Robert and James Smith; and his niece Susan Valente.
He is survived by: his children, Judy Degenhardt (Tom), Jan Path (Douglas), Tim Smith (Julie), Mary Margaret Smith and Patrick Smith. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
