He was predeceased by: his parents, Elton Waterhouse and Malena Waterhouse (Richardson). He is survived by: his spouse Valentyna; his children, Wendi Umali and Ron; his siblings, Gwen, Lynette and Timothy; and also Alina. He is also survived by two grandchildren, nephews, nieces.

He received National Science Foundation graduate scholarships to Loma Linda University in California, Central Michigan University, State Univerisity of New York, Oneonta, and Universidad de Guadelajara, where he studied Aztec Archaeololgy.
