He was predeceased by: his parents, Milton Espenscheid and Leona Espenscheid (Yokers); and his brother Gary Espenscheid. He is survived by: his wife Ruth Espenscheid; his children, Sarah Lueschow (Kevin), Ben Espenscheid (Bev), Jon Espenscheid (Shannon), Thad Espenscheid (Meredith), Amy Espenscheid and Carrie Espenscheid; and his sister Marilyn Bicksler. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
