Marlys A. Rodgers Obituary
Obituary | Marlys A. Rodgers of Appleton, Wisconsin | Cline Hanson / Borchardt & Moder Funeral Homes & Cremations / Pet Cremation.
Marlys Ann Rodgers, 88, died peacefully on December 16, 2023 at Dimensions Living in Appleton WI. She recently relocated to WI after three years in Mission, TX, however most of her adult life was spent in the Northwest, especially Orcas Island, and LaConner WA. She loved LaConner and the many friends she made there, but the weather prompted her move to Texas. Marlys was born August 5th 1935, in Marshalltown Iowa to the late Russell and Ruth (Roinstad) Tweed. The oldest of eight children, raised on the family farm, Marlys was a hard worker, helping with her younger siblings, and the many farm chores.
She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1953, and was proud of her first job at Lloyd's Restaurant. Always independent, Marlys soon boarded a train west. She lived and worked in Missoula MT for many years before moving to the Northwest. She met and married Larry Rodgers and together they opened Brassy's, a boutique, in La Conner WA. Marlys ran Brassy's for 18 years and loved meeting people from all over. She felt that when someone purchased an item from Brassy's they were taking a piece of LaConner with them.
Gary the cat was a resident of Brassy's, and Marlys had postcards made of him inviting visitors to browse the store. Marlys was quite the business woman and very particular about the items she bought for Brassy's. With her friendly smile and warm personality she made friends easily. She enjoyed entertaining at home with dinner on the deck, (lots of salmon and crab) while enjoying the view. Marlys liked to travel, visiting Hawaii, Panama Canal, Canada etc. but she especially loved visiting her cousins in Norway and seeing the family farm of her ancestors, which is still in the family.
She was a classy, independent, strong lady which made the move to assisted living in WI a challenge as she was not accustomed to asking for help. She said if she had life to do over she would have more fun. Her family would like to thank all the staff at Dimensions Living of Appleton, and the Promedica Hospice RN''s and their other staff members, including the social workers, ministers and CNAs who helped her leave this world with dignity and peace. Marlys was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth (Roinstad) and Russell Tweed, husband Larry Rodgers, sister Elaine and (Wade) Weise, brothers Edward Tweed and Loren Tweed.
She is survived by brothers Vern Tweed (Sonya), Earl Tweed (Beth), Arlo Tweed, and sister Marilyn (Don) Speas. She is further survived by her many nieces and nephews: Debbie Quackenbush (Kent), David Tweed (Sarah), Mike Tweed (Eliana), Ira Tweed (Wendy), Nathan Poole (Shelly), Ben Poole (Sherry), Melissa Poole (Todd), Eric Tweed, Gretchen Tweed, Brian Speas (Rebecca), Jeremy Klaas. There will be a private memorial service at a later date.
