Iris Arla (Roberts) Moore Obituary
IRIS ARLA ROBERTS MOORE 1936-2022
Iris was born Arla Delene Roberts in a single-walled house built on a homestead in the middle of the Oregon Coast Range. There was no electricity or indoor plumbing. She was the youngest of 10 children and the last to survive. Her father had been severely injured in a logging accident and died when she was 10. Her mother followed two years later. Orphaned at 12, she was taken in by an older brother, Verlin, and his wife Mary, joining their four (eventually eight) children in Sweet Home, Oregon. Arla graduated from Willamette University in 1954 and took her first permanent job as a librarian at $1.00/hour. Later she was a secretary and then undertook spiritual therapy and healing. Arla sang some and wrote poetry and children’s books. Married and divorced twice (Jim Crane and Charles Moore), she was childless but had 47 nieces and nephews, most still surviving, who will miss her.
