He was predeceased by: his parents, Antonio P Apodaca and Rebecca Apodaca; and his siblings, Anthony, David, Richard Sr., Louise and Leopoldo.

He is survived by: his children, Steven, Michele, Daniel and Monica; his grandchildren, Paris Apodaca, Hannah, Courtney, Nicholas Wiles, Riker Thiel, Rebecca and Nicholas Gutierrez; and his sisters, Martha Picazo (Jack), Geneva Rodriguez and MaryEllen Apodaca.
