He was predeceased by: his wife Erika Bauer; and his son Frank Bauer. He is survived by: his son Chris (Kim); his daughter-in-law Jill Bauer; his grandchildren, Amy Wood, Alexis Freeto, Jackson Bauer, Ava Bauer and Lily Bauer; and his great grandchildren, Rieley Wood, Cheyenne Wood and Braxton Freeto.

Donations in Helmut's honor may be made to Thurston County Food Bank.
