He was predeceased by: his parents, Rachel Abitia (Alvarado) and Raymond Abitia; his siblings, Penny Jorgensen, Fred and Carl Abitia; his children, Santiago, Alphonso Abitia and Irene Lagerwey; his great grandchildren, Tylee Altona and Jasmine Alvarado; and his nephews, Raymond Abitia Jr. and Theodore Holmstrom.
He is survived by: his wife Virginia Zapien; his siblings, Lucy Zapien of Toppenish, Dora Zapien (Pascual) of Sumas, Mary Horn (Tom) of Sumas, Junior Abitia (Esther) of Sumas, Virginia of Sumas, Rosie Holmstrom (Donnie) of Everson, Suzy Smith of Everson and Joe Abitia of Sumas; and his children, Elizabeth Altona (Deb) of Lynden, Jim Abitia of Lynden, Fernando (Mary) of Peaceful Valley, Josephine White (Don) of Mount Vernon, Ray Abitia of Lynden and Rosie Abitia of Lynden. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren.
