He was predeceased by: his parents, Lewis Shanks and Hazel Shanks (Maloney); his son Mark Shanks (Lois Shanks); and his siblings, Patricia Shanks and Michael Shanks.
He is survived by: his children, Michael Shanks of Ketchum, ID, Mary Shanks of Seattle, WA, Thomas Shanks of Spokane, WA, Deborah Johnston of Missoula, MT and Sara Munro of Spokane, WA; his grandchildren, Kylee Munro, Jake Johnston and Kalyn Munro; his sisters-in-law, Joan Shanks and Mary Gaffigan; his nephew Matthew Shanks; and his nieces, Mia Davidson and Emily Scelfo.
