He was predeceased by: his parent Volga German-Russian; his siblings, Dorothy Carter and William "Bill" Bretthauer (Gala); his sister-in-law Janice Bretthauer; and his nephew Dennis Reeves.
He is survived by: his wife Dolores Matlock; his children, Joni Bretthauer (Derrick Sorensen) of Mukilteo, Steven Bretthauer, Savawn and Teanna Bretthauer of Spokane; his siblings, James "Jim" Bretthauer, Patricia "Pat" (Dick Cresci) and Joyce (Dan Purple); and his siblings-in-law, David Carter, Catherine Hamilton (Matlock), Maryann Dinehart (Matlock) and Clyde "Spike" Matlock (Pat). He is also survived by 27 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Richard's name may be made to the Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service (SCRAPS) in honor of his love of animals.
