Walt Chrush lit a candle

“Professionally, in his work Jim always applied his intelligence. Whenever we discussed a computing product or industry trends & directions, I always paid attention to Jim’s technical opinion because he usually nailed it. Personally, I always enjoyed talking with Jim no matter the subject, and he could talk about anything and everything. Jim was such an active guy - he always seemed happy and enjoyed all that offered. It was clear that he really loved his family, and he will be sorely missed.”

Sheila Ambruster wrote a sympathy message

“Jim could walk into a room and supercharge the atmosphere with his personality. He was a great technical resource, people connector, and one of the best storytellers ever. My favorite discussions were those about his family. When telling a tale about a special hike, a neighborhood barbeque, or the current Apple Cup rivalry, the love and pride he had for each family member was the highlight of the story. His life was a blessing and his memory a treasure.”

Greg Reed wrote a sympathy message

“Jim was truly a unique, one-of-a-kind, person that is definitely missed. He was a mentor, a guide, and a friend which enjoyed telling stories almost as much as I enjoyed listening to them. He was reliable and sharp-witted, and someone you could always count on for support. His enthusiasm inspired others to work harder and reach higher goals. I was truly blessed to have known and experience Jim in my life. Sorry for your loss, my prayers are with you.”

“Jim was truly an amazing person. I met him on a special project several years ago. His magnetic and knowledgeable personality brought much needed spark to the conversations. He even gave pointers on how to best cook a goose!! The room would get quiet (which was a miracle) when he would share one of his amazing adventure stories. Everyone wanted to hear what he had to say. The world truly lost an amazing person. The angels in Heaven are in for a treat! Prayers and Blessings to family & friends”

“We bonded because of our shared love of fishing. I truly enjoyed his energy, zest for life and love of family. I had the honor of showing him some of my rivers and hosting Jim on my boat a couple times. I never once saw him without a smile, a story of an adventure or a plan. The last few years our connection was only through Facebook but even then it was a joy to share in his hikes & family moments and read his kind comments of my daughter's adventures growing up. - Mark Nordahl”

“(part 2) He always got there earlier than I did, and usually he was almost finished. He’d wave from the treadmill through the window as I was walking in. He had a gift for storytelling, and his stories of hunting (with bow or rifle) were fascinating to hear. It was also apparent to me from these discussions that he loved his family very much. He had such a smile while talking about them. I felt special in that he was so willing to share personal adventures. I’ll be praying for his family.”

“(part 1) I am so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. He was on a call with the rest of the team (being as vocal and engaging as ever – he was always one to speak up and help further the discussion) just a few days prior to Christmas. We’ve been in the same org for the past 5 years at Boeing. I got to know him at a much more personal level as we had many early morning workouts together at the Boeing Bellevue campus. At most there were 10 people coming in regularly, so we had a bond in that sense.”

We all respected his insights and opinions that he was always willing to share. He was the first person to take new in career folks under his wing and show them the ropes within Boeing IT as well as the finer aspects of catching a steelhead on the banks of a Western Washington river. Jim was a great guy and will be sorely missed. RIP Mr. Rubert.”
