Clyde Robert Wells Obituary
Clyde “Bud” Robert Wells
October 24, 1930 – June 22, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Clyde "Bud" Wells, who, surrounded by his family, went to our Savior on June 22, 2020, after a brief illness at the age of 89. He is survived by his wife, Leora, of 68 years, his 4 children, Rob, Don, Pam, Lorilee, 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, his brother, George, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born in Vallejo, California, Bud was the oldest of 6 children. At the age of 17 he joined the US Air Force and was stationed at McCord Air Force Base during the Korean war where he was a flight line mechanic on the F-82. He capitalized on the electronics experience to contract as an electronics technician on the Minuteman Nuclear Missile, as well as working on the analogue computer controls on the Strategic Air Command B-52’s and Submarine Electronics. This enabled his family to live in many central and western states in the US during the 1960’s. He settled in at Boeing, Seattle, working on the electronics in the Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) and rose to Supervisor until his retirement in 1992. Bud loved his work and the people he worked with and after retiring never missed the monthly Boeing retiree meetings. He loved to socialize and was loved by everyone he met.
Bud met his dear wife at the Evergreen Ballroom in Olympia January 1952 and they married in December 1952. She was the love of his life, and he would light up whenever he had the chance to share the story of their meeting.
Bud’s love of Baseball led him to play semi-pro until his first child was born and when he retired from Boeing, joined a senior softball league. His other loves were family, woodworking, gardening, and travel.
His experience building houses as a 2nd job enabled him to build the family home in 1967 with the help of his wife and their 3 children. Soon they welcomed their 4th child and Bud adored her, as did the rest of the family. He was a wonderful husband, father and granddad.
We love you Bud, Dad, Granddad! You will be dearly missed and forever remembered as the wonderful man you have been to us all. We are so thankful for you!
A celebration of life was held by his immediate family on June 24, and a private ceremony will be held on July 11th at the Tahoma Veterans Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite Charity.
