Kenneth Eugene Vogt Obituary
Longtime Puyallup resident, Kenneth Eugene Vogt passed away on April 30th, 2023. His death was a result of complications from multiple strokes over the last 15 months.
He was the fourth child born to Raymond & Grace Vogt in Sanborn, IA on May 11th, 1941. The Vogt family moved to Tacoma, WA from Iowa a few months later. Ken grew up in Tacoma, he had fond memories of fishing under the 11th street bridge and Wapato Lake with his three brothers & their childhood friends. He also shared loving stories of road trips and camping with his Grandmother Emma & Step-Grandfather “Mac” McAtee.
In 1959 he graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma, then entered the US Navy in Seattle, August 1960. After boot camp, he reported to the USS Calvert APA32 based out of San Diego, CA. It was the only duty station he had during his entire Naval career. Upon leaving active duty in October 1963, he remained in the reserves living in San Diego for 2 more years.
During the Summer of 1961 while attending a Padres game in San Diego, he met his first wife, Barbara Eberwein. They later eloped to Las Vegas in January 1963 and moved their growing family to Tacoma in 1966 to be closer to his relatives. They had 5 children together and both mutually decided to separate, then ultimately divorced in 1974.
He remarried Carol Linville in September 1988 and they’ve resided in his Puyallup home since. Both have enjoyed entertaining family, friends & neighbors, having many social gatherings at their home throughout the years.
Ken worked almost 30 years for the State of WA at Western State Hospital beginning as a cook, then working at the maintenance shop until retiring in 2005. He loved to dance the two-step, one of his favorite songs was “Rose Colored Glasses” by John Conlee. He always enjoyed cooking, playing a game of pool and later in life frequenting the Emerald Queen Casino in Fife.
Survivors include his wife Carol and five children, Robin (Will) Warren, DeAnna Vogt, Ken (Pua) Vogt, Jodi (Erik) Painter, Eric Vogt and stepson Rich Linville. He is also survived by 21 Grandchildren, 30 Great-Grandchildren, to include several bonus Grandchildren. Also, his youngest Brother, “Bob” and sister in-law, Deanette, younger adopted sister, Patty Daly, several nephews, nieces, cousins, and many friends throughout the states of Washington & Oregon. All will miss him…
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond & Grace Vogt, both sisters, Rosalyn & Eileen, 2 brothers, Roger & Richard and a granddaughter, Barbara Jo Crabtree.
Ken’s wife Carol & children will have a Celebration of his Life at their home in Puyallup, on Saturday June 17th, 2023 from 1p-6p. We welcome all family & friends to come by and share their stories.
