He was predeceased by: his parents, Patrick Clinton and Mary Clinton. He is survived by: his wife Shirley. He is also survived by his five daughters, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren were enthusiastic partners.

In addition to his numerous contributions to periodicals in his field of academia, he authored two books, 'The Loyal Opposition' (1997) and 'Two Families: An Irish Melodrama' (2011).
