Jo Kimbrell Obituary
Jo Kimbrell peacefully passed in her sleep in the wee morning hours of May 19th. Born Josephine Irene Herbst, April 22, 1928 in Lyman Nebraska to Carl and Mollie Herbst, she, along with her parents, 2 brothers Carl and Fritz, and 2 sisters Alice and Dorothy moved to Sunnyside, WA in the late 1930’s. It is there where she met and married her husband of 75 years LeRoy (Casey) Kimbrell.
In 1952 Jo and Casey moved to Prosser and started a family. Jo was a devoted housewife and mother. She provided for the family by tending the garden and animals, and canning, cooking, cleaning and budgeting every penny.
They have one son, Dennis Kimbrell, of Tolleson, AZ and three daughters, Patti (Mark) Salter, of Tacoma, WA, Julie (Mike) Clark of Granite Falls, WA, and Donna (David) Vacek of Prosser, WA. Jo also has four grandchildren, Logan Holmes, Caycee (Brad) Eldridge, Jessica Clark and Gavin Clark, and one great-grandchild Hazel Eldridge. After raising her own children Jo kept busy crocheting, gardening and babysitting for other families in the area.
After retiring from the farm, Jo and Casey moved into town where Jo continued her devotion to children by taking care of her grandkids before school. Jo is preceded in death by her parents, and all of her siblings. She and her brother, Fritz, passed away within 12 hours of each other.
Graveside services were held at the Prosser Cemetery on Tuesday May 23rd at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to your favorite animal or children’s charity of choice.
