He is survived by: his wife Alice Compton of Blackfoot, Idaho.; his children, Michael John Townsend (Becki), Lynn Marie Townsend-White (Alan) and Sheldon Evan Townsend (Lynn); his close friend Betty Gard; and his brother Edgar Townsend (Barbara) of Moscow.
