He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Essex and Gertrude Essex; his children, Cindy and Jeffrey; his brother Norman; his close friend Buck Harris; his brother-in-law Ron Mercer; and his grandson Shane Phillips.
He is survived by: his children, Chris (Frank), David (Stephanie) and Mark (Debbie); his wife Judy Mercer; his sisters, Evelvn (Dean), Norma (Ray) and Barb (David); and his friend Joseph Gross. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
